Weises aus der Vergangenheit / Wisdom From the Distant Past

Ein unkluger Mann,
Der zu andern kommt,
Schweigt am besten still.
Niemand bemerkt,
Daß er nichts versteht,
So lang er zu sprechen scheut.
Nur freilich weiß,
Wer wenig weiß,
Auch nicht, wann er schweigen soll.

Edda eine Sammlung isländischer Skaldenpoetik von Snorre Sturlason, entstand

An unwise person/Comes to another person / Silence is best when in quititude / No one knows – nothing has been understood / As long as s/he is shy to speak (the unwise appears falsly wise) / But those who know little / Do not know either / When to be quiet.
